If you’re anything like me, you know how easy it is for leads to slip through the cracks when things get busy. As a real estate expert with Evergreen Real Estate Partners, I’ve been there, especially this time of year, with showings, closings, and open houses all piling up fast.
Today, I want to share three simple but powerful tips to help you stay on top of your follow-up game without losing your mind or adding more hours to your day.
Three Practical Tips to Stay on Top of Follow-Ups
Tip 1: Don’t Panic. When things get busy, it’s easy to slip into panic mode. You start thinking, “I’m so overwhelmed, how am I supposed to follow up with everyone?” That mindset pushes you into survival mode, where you subconsciously avoid creating more business for yourself.
Instead, take a deep breath. Remind yourself that you’ve worked hard to generate these leads and don’t want them to go to waste. Staying calm keeps you focused and ready to tackle your follow-up with confidence.
Tip 2: Stop Chasing Perfection. Perfectionism is the enemy of progress. I used to think that if I couldn’t do something perfectly, I shouldn’t bother doing it at all. When I struggled to stay consistent with workouts, I’d skip them entirely if I couldn’t get a full hour at the gym. But I became more consistent when I started fitting in what I could with the time I had.
The same applies to lead follow-up.
You don’t need three uninterrupted hours to call a hundred clients. Instead, follow up with clients during those pockets of time you have on your hands:
- Use the in-between time, like those 20 minutes you’re sitting in your car before an appointment.
- Stop scrolling social media and start making calls.
- Keep a list of people you need to follow up with, whether it’s past clients or new leads.
Knock out a few quick calls during those spare moments, and you’ll be surprised at how much you can accomplish when you let go of all-or-nothing thinking.
Tip 3: Know What You’re Going to Say. Nothing wastes time like stumbling through a call without a plan. That’s why I recommend having a script ready. Not to sound like a robot, but to be concise and intentional.
When you’re busy, you don’t have time for hour-long life updates. A good script helps you focus on the purpose of your call, deliver value, and clarify what you need from the conversation.
Write out a script, practice it a few times out loud, and keep it handy. Whether checking in with a past client or following up with a new lead, knowing what you’ll say makes you sound confident and saves precious time.
Do This: Turn Waiting Time Into Follow-Up Wins
Over the next few weeks, I want to challenge you to use your in-between time intentionally. Whether you’re waiting for a showing, sitting in your car, or hanging out at the office, see how many follow-up calls you can knock out during those moments you’d normally scroll or zone out.
Follow-up doesn’t have to be overwhelming, even in the busiest seasons. Stop waiting for the “perfect” time and start using the time you already have.
